Red Sox Fan Named Contestant Finalist

Dave Fontaine of Dedham, MA Red Sox fan Dave Fontaine of Dedham, MA was chosen as a finalist in the Baby Ruth "Real Deal Fan Search Contest," which was held online from July 14-25, 2003. The contest was a nation-wide campaign to find "Real Deal" sports fans who express unique and creative passion for sports.

Baby Ruth asked contestants to submit a 60 second video explaining or showing "Real Deal" fan passion. Ten finalists were chosen by Baby Ruth and five Grand Prize winners were to be selected by the public by voting on www.babyruth.com.

The Grand Prize: a chance to bat against Hall-of-Famer Nolan Ryan!

Dave's video re-enacts the two most memorable moments in Red Sox history (in his opinion) and used Fenway Park as a back-drop. As a cancer patient, he was able to bat at Fenway as part of The Jimmy Fund's "Fantasy Day" and his video includes a clip of him hitting the "Green Monsta."

After one week of voting, Dave was in first place when, due to an overwhelming response, Baby Ruth decided to stop the contest....and send all 10 contestants to Texas to bat against Nolan Ryan.
